Conway County History Museum

Museum admission is free. Hours of operation: Fri & Sat, 10-2:00 pm, or by appointment

This Facebook group is administered by the Conway County Historical Preservation Association which operates the Conway County History Museum located in the old train depot in downtown Morrilton. Our purpose is to discover and memorialize the history of Conway County; to discover, purchase, commission, or otherwise procure, and to publish or otherwise preserve writings, newspapers, journals, and the like, which shed light on the history of Conway County; to discover, procure, and preserve physical objects that may relate to the history of Conway County; to establish and maintain a museum; and to hold regular meetings and other activities as needed.

Theater

The historic Rialto Community Arts Center is the heart of live theater and performing arts in Conway County. Originally opened in 1911 as Morrilton’s first movie theater, the Rialto served the community for decades before closing in 1987. The building was later purchased by the City of Morrilton and restored by local volunteers, reopening as a community arts center that hosts stage plays, concerts, movies, art exhibits, and community events. Today the theater continues to bring entertainment and culture to downtown Morrilton while preserving one of the area’s most historic landmarks.

Off Road/ATV

The Brock Creek OHV Trail system in the Ozark–St. Francis National Forest offers ATV and off-road enthusiasts over 40 miles of trails through scenic oak, hickory, and pine forests. Designed for ATVs, dirt bikes, and other off-highway vehicles, the trails vary from easy forest roads to more challenging rugged terrain, crossing creeks and moving between valleys and ridges. The trail network is accessible year-round with multiple trailheads, including Zing, Mountain Man, and Austin, all reachable via Conway County and nearby forest roads. Riders should stay on designated trails, bring their own supplies, and be prepared for changing trail conditions, as the forest roads can be slippery after rain. Nearby Brock Creek Lake Recreation Area offers primitive camping for those looking to extend their visit. Trail maps are recommended for navigation, and safety precautions like riding with a buddy and carrying emergency gear are encouraged.

Fishing

Lake Overcup — A top fishing spot in the county, known as a crappie hotspot (daily limit 20), plus largemouth bass, bluegill, and more. Bank fishing from the dam or jetty, boat ramps available. No dedicated campground on-site, but it's close to other options and great for day fishing.


Arkansas River (access near Morrilton) — Excellent for bass, catfish, bluegill, and more. Bank fishing or boat access at public spots like near the locks/dams or parks along the river. It's a prime river fishery right in the area. Cadron Creek / Cadron Settlement Park area — Good for stream fishing, with spots along the creek for various species. The historic park offers river/creek access and nearby fishing opportunities.


Point Remove Creek — A stream flowing into the Arkansas River, offering diverse fishing in a natural setting. Popular for local anglers targeting species in the creek environment.

Petit Jean State Park — Prime for both camping and fishing. It has 125 campsites (including Class AAA with full hookups, Class B sites, yurts, and group areas) near Lake Bailey, plus fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish (shore fishing, ADA-accessible pier, or rent boats/kayaks seasonally from the marina/boathouse). Great for tent/RV camping with trails and scenic views nearby.


Cherokee Park (on the Arkansas River near Morrilton) — Offers camping with 33 sites (electric/water hookups), picnic shelters, showers, and playgrounds. Excellent for fishing/boating access on the river. Recreation.gov

Museum of Automobiles

Visiting antique and classic cars at the Museum of Automobiles — Check out a collection of vintage vehicles and automotive history. Opened in 1964 by the then future Governor Winthrop Rockefeller, the museum still houses several of his personal automobiles along with cars owned or driven by other notable people such as Elvis Presley and President John F. Kennedy. It displays vehicles from as early as 1904 and as late as 1981, with 48 in between, in addition to motorcycles and pedal cars. Also on display is an antique gun collection and coin machines including a functioning player piano. With such a variety, there is something for everyone!
